A proud day for the label… here’s a little history lesson for you:

Once upon a time in a land far far away…..

Rising Music was launched in 2006 as a means for Chris Lake to release his own material. Rising swiftly became the benchmark for pure underground house – releases that included ‘One Too Many’, ‘Fantasy’ and ‘Release’ set the standard, whilst Chris has also shown that his A&R head is amongst the best in the business by signing artists that include Sebastien Leger, Micky Slim and Deadmau5.”

….Since then, the label has evolved and as a team, Rising Music helps to promote and develop new and emerging artists. The Rising Music Podcast is the team’s opportunity to globally showcase the producers and DJs of this world who are truly on the cutting edge of great house music.”

So people… we’ve kicked off with Sour Grapes live in Barcelona…. thanks lads and enjoy!

HIGH RESOLUTION IMAGE Chris Lake and Lys return to Rising Music after their smash “Violins” with the follow
up “La Tromba”

The
original is an epic track with a lead that will stimulate a dance floor, add to
it the groovy percussion that runs throughout and it is easy to see why this
track has been doing the damage on some of the world’s coolest dancefloors.

Lys’s
remix has grooves interwoven skilfully throughout. The percussion in this track
is brought to the forefront by Lys whilst still retaining the big room values
of the original.

The
Sour Grapes ‘Balboa’ remix cranks it up to proper heads down big room territory.

We know what you must be thinking, no podcast in December and now the March edition is missing, how sketchy is Chris Lake?

Well, in his defense, when he left London six weeks ago to start his debut album tour of North America, he had the very best intentions. Sound cards were packed, the mic was in the hand-luggage and soundcards safely stowed away….or so we thought. Within twelve hours of arriving in land of peace and bohemian safe-haven San Francisco, his portable studio was gone.

So, whilst traveling the territory he’s been picking up bits and pieces as he’s gone along, and now, with great pleasure we announce the April edition for your listening pleasure.

As always, it can be picked up on iTunes or subscribe via our RSS feed by clicking here.

Track-listing:

Top 5:
5. Sour Grapes – Kharma [Televizion]
4. Wolfgang Gartner & Francis Preve – Yin [Toolroom]
3. Axwell, Ingrosso, Angello & Laidback Luke feat Deborah Cox – Leave the world behind [Axtone Records]
2. Sebastien Drums & Tom Geiss & Eric G – Funky Beep (Dub mix) [Work Machine]
1. Prok & Fitch vs Filthy Rich – Naga [Cr2]

More tunes:
TJ Cases ft J-Key – Hard Cash (TJ Cases main dub) [Cut House Records]
Kim Jofferey & Natalie Konan – Take me there (Chris Kaeser Dub) [Carbon14]

From the iPod:
La Roux – In for the kill (lifelike remix) [Kitsune Music]

The second podcast edition of 2009 see’s Chris revert back to some of the sounds for which he is best known; straight-up deep house and electro.

His Top 5 is made of artists; Pryda, a man called Dr.Kucho, FLG, Patric La Funk, and out on Rising Music we have Alex Fain’s ‘Aurora Borealis’. The rest of the episode is suitably up-tempo and at times quite dark, finishing off with a true The Prodigy - In Japanclassic from the recently reformed Prodigy.

This may not be everybody’s bag, but for those who like it a bit grim and very dirty, turn it up!

Aside from decent human nature, few things in life are free. Almost every product and/or service must be purchased or exchanged for a currency, sheep or a deck of cigs… depending on whether you live in a developed, developing or confined space on earth. Then, there’s the second thought of even if something is free… is it any good? Will effect me in a positive, negative or neutral way? Sex is free…. for most of us… that’s pretty damn great… so is picking berries in the wild… not quite the same, but do you see my thought process? image And then there’s the podcast; something I personally think is one of the greatest inventions to date. I currently subscribe to 35 on completely different topics, ranging from dance music across to weekly media updates from the Guardian, marketing tips from WOMMA, sports analysis and comedy sketches. The point is, if a podcaster gets their shit together and keeps up with fresh monthly content, you’re onto a total winner. For example: If you want to find out which tunes are hitting the top ten on Beatport downloads… then listen to the weekly ‘Beatport Burners’ show… a quick round up, with decent length clips of each track with full artist, tune and label info. I think that aside from the obvious free aspect, podcasts allow consumers to absorb more information at times when they would normally not be able to do so – so for me, I guess it’s about convenience as much as cost.

Anyway as 2008 comes to an end and as a little hats off out of respect, I wanted to put together a quick top five (excluding of course the Chris Lake podcast series…. that’d be a tad biased), highlighting quality, varied and reliable content from the whole year. Here goes:

5) In FIFTH place comes the globally recognised Giles Peterson, and his ‘Worldwide’ series. A true legend of discovery.

4) FOURTH goes to the aforementioned Beatport and the reliable ‘Burners’ series. A great way to keep up to date on who’s topping who of the most popular electronic chart.

3) For THIRD place I’ve gone with the people from Allez Allez. I posted about them earlier in the year with much new found respect. Their production continues to impress me, Mikhail Faria making me smile the most.

2) SECOND spot goes to Ben and his team at Data Transmission. I like the fact DT seems to be having such imagesuccess with its online publication… setting standards and all that. John Dahlback and the Plump DJs were two episodes that stood out from what was by all accounts a great year of music.

1) At the top of my humble chart in FIRST place is the Bodytonic Music Podcast. Qool DJ Marv, DJ Yoda, the Unabombers… etc etc etc… suitably eclectic, hugely entertaining and bang up my street. Great work! Just please keep them coming!

Have a good New Year people and I’ll catch you in ’09!
