So I'm out in Miami, for yet another Winter Music Conference, and I've had a really amazing time out here. Started off quite low key; went off with some friends to rent some Jet ski's, which was ridiculously good fun. The tour guide took us around the waters, showing us some famous places and houses, like the Scarface house and P Diddy's pad. Makes me feel inadequate with my humble 2 bed apartment in London! It's definitely a completely different lifestyle out here that's for sure.
Wednesday saw me playing upstairs at Nikki Beach. I went on for an hour after Funkagenda throwing out some slamming techno/mashup beats. Was a really good night and the crowd was well up for it!
Friday was my busiest day work wise. Started off at an Armani Exchange event, doing press, along with various interviews including the lovely Joe Bermudez, and Michael Weiss (head of my US label, Nervous records). Then headed off to Ultra, where I opened up the Cream Amnesia arena. All I can say is, this show was insane! The most crazy crowd I have played to for a while.
After milling about doing more press stuff, and hooking up with friends, I then had two more spins, one for the AM Only party, playing back to back with Bart B More, then the Nervous records party. What a great way to finish off the day! I had such a good time, but was pretty knackered by the end of it. My tour manager got so leathered, he spent most of Saturday whining about his hangover! So I ended up leaving him behind, then Mrs Lake & myself headed back to Ultra to go see our friend Joel (Deadmau5) have his turn on stage. Hats off, the show was amazing, and the visuals were superb.
All the times in between were spent catching up with various industry friends, having drinks, and unfortunately getting slightly sunburnt (not a good idea at all, neck burnt? Check! Legs burnt? Check! Nose already peeling? Check! It has yet again been a great Miami, next up… Canada!
Over the past year, the team and I have been keen to really get into all this Web 2.0 stuff, so I'm hoping this next venture doesn't come as too much of a surprise. In a nutshell, we've teamed up with Awdio to stream sets from my North American tour for my first album 'Crazy'. There's a few dates we're not 100% on yet due to net connections, but for more info on all this, check out our new Social Media Newsroom.
Rising Music presents an awesome EP from Italy’s Alex Fain. Not much is known about Fain, in the words of the legend himself: “Born in the
1973 in Italy where he is currently living……………..etc,etc,etc. He made a lot of rmx for a lot of artists, and a lot of productions for a lot of labels.”
Aurora Borealis is a beautifully melodic piece of electronic music. With it’s dreamy hook and tight rhythm the track is set to be a club smash. Real electro house!
Hello all. So I'm currently 37,000 Ft in the air on my way home from this weekends gigs. Been quite manic! Started out with a show for kissdafunk at Leeds university. It's always a lot of fun playing in Leeds as the crowd is always clued up and ready for a big party. Thanks to Rob Tissera for bringing me along. So next stop was Budapest. What a stunning city! Had a lot of fun at the party, and my old friend Matthew Dekay popped by to say hello as he was in town. That was a laugh! Saturday was in Munich, playing for those lovely people from the excellent Great Stuff Recordings. Great vibe, great party and it just proved to me why so many people are talking about the German scene right now.
So now I'm flying home to London, feeling frazzled! I have 5 days to get my stuff in order before setting off to the USA for my album tour. I can't wait to get going now, but also anxious to finish off all the records that are nearly there, so I can test them on tour. The hardest thing about touring all the time is balancing DJ work with studio time. At the moment I feel I'm losing the battle! So I've spent the past two weeks preparing my laptop with all my studio software. I'm taking an apogee duet soundcard, sm58 mic, a korg nanokey, and my ilok key (it holds all the licenses for my software on it and have to take it everywhere just to open my programs). This will mean I can still do podcasts, and produce on the road. On the off days I can go into a studio with speakers and tighten up everything I have done. Never really done this properly before so I hope it works! I also have my eye on further developing my live show. I have so much original material now that I think a live show could really work. It also gives me a fresh challenge to overcome.
Not much else to say really, apart from if you are in the USA, please try to make it to one of my shows (dates are listed on my myspace), but for those of you who can't make it, I have partnered up with Awdio to provide live streams of my shows on their website exclusively. This is the first time I have done anything like this so I can't wait to hear the feedback on it.
So it's been a long week. It's raining outside. Spring is close, but not close enough. Fancy cheering up or just getting a good vibe before the weekend starts – check out this puppy on Dance Trippin TV. I've been smiling for the whole episode and thought I'd share for all those not used to the site. If you're at home, plug it into your amp and crack open a beer. If you're in the office, try your hardest not to look like you've developed a twitch!
Hello everyone. Just wanted to write a post about a weird situation I’ve found myself in on facebook. Since mid 2008 I got stuck into facebook, setup an artist profile, and a personal account. Gradually I started getting loads of fan requests to my personal account, and I thought it was the right thing to add people on this – similar to MySpace. Well, it now turns out I have caused myself a bit of a problem; I now get sent so many messages directly on this account, of a nature that I simply cannot respond to, and it’s a hell of a lot to manage. On top of this, yesterday, I hit my maximum amount of friends allowed for a personal account (5000), so that’s it I’m afraid. I’ve made the decision to cancel my current personal account in a few weeks; which will hopefully give anyone who is interested in my work as a producer/Dj some time to transfer to my artist page. I hope in the long run this is a more sensible option. I’m sorry for anyone who has tried to add me as a friend. If you join the fan page you’ll find pretty much the same info about myself.
Well well… here we are again, absolutely chuffed to bits that Chris‘ remix of ‘Tell U Y‘ has taken top spot in last week’s Buzz Chart. Happy days! Here’s a bit of footage from a few weeks back and a little more info on the aforementioned remix. Catch you later…
The second podcast edition of 2009 see’s Chris revert back to some of the sounds for which he is best known; straight-up deep house and electro.
His Top 5 is made of artists; Pryda, a man called Dr.Kucho, FLG, Patric La Funk, and out on Rising Music we have Alex Fain’s ‘Aurora Borealis’. The rest of the episode is suitably up-tempo and at times quite dark, finishing off with a true classic from the recently reformed Prodigy.
This may not be everybody’s bag, but for those who like it a bit grim and very dirty, turn it up!
