Hello everyone! Hope you all had an eventful and fruitful weekend – I know I did! These are the biggest records from my weekend, some old some new, but all destroyed the dancefloor!
Energy 52 – Cafe del Mar (Dave Robertson Remix): All Around the World WOW! I loved the original in 1998 and Dave has done a sterling mix to bring this bang up to date.
Laurent Garnier – Man with the Red Face (Original) F Communications: A true dance music classic that I will never tire of hearing.
Sam Ball – Snookered (Original) iFi Records: Top new track
from Sam on his new label.
Riva Starr – Vouxhall (Tim Green Remix): Southern Fried Hot new producer Tim Green (TG) turns in a great remix here.
Misc – Chemosphere (Original) Lost Souls Recordings Debut: release from the London techno dons new label.
Look out for our office top 5 coming on Friday! Until then…
Hi! So it’s midday Monday, I’m poolside at one of Ibiza’s fine south-side hotels and my wife is working on her tan.
Tonight’s a bit of a special one.. I’m playing at what is described as the largest club in the world… the 7000 capacity Privilege. I’ve heard it’s been a tough year for many of the promoters out here, but Tiesto‘s weekly Monday night “In Search of Sunrise” has been a roadblock sell out. Tonight it’s my turn to play before DJ Mag’s 2007 runner up and I’ll be kicking things off from about 12am … I actually can’t wait! Should be interesting as I’ve not met Tiesto before, or even spoke to him, so I’ll just be going on and doing my thing before he comes on and lets rip! I’ll be there with my camera ready, trying to get some good footage to sling up on the YouTube channel asap. Catch you soon.
There goes another week! Had some brilliant and some not so brilliant music on our system this week. Here’s our pick of the bunch:
The Verve – ‘Love Is Noise’ (Tom Neville’s Listening remix) Wow! Tom has done this remix so well – I even prefer it to the original and I love the Verve!
Chris Lake ‘The One’: Can our man do no wrong? I think he can’t, another top track from Lakey here!
Rhythm Code ‘Rise’ (Pop of Remix): Popof on the mix here of Rise on Chris’ Rising Trax label
Son of Kick ‘Bad Groove’ (Mayer Remix): Coming soon on the Stanton Warriors label Punks, this remix is mind blowing!
Something a little different but brilliant -Kool and the gang – ‘This is you, this is me, We love disco!’ A song that never fails to make you smile from some all time legends.
So there we go! Have a fun and safe weekend wherever you are and see you on Monday for my weekend’s club bangers!
Till then…
Today is the opening day for this year’s Top 100 DJs. Over recent times its been very much up to the trance lads to
populate the top ten spots – and to be fair, why not? The likes of Tiesto and Paul van Dyk have been producing great music and filling stadiums for quite some time now…. and no matter how many people talk about their love for small room clubs, sweaty ceilings and an intense atmosphere – it’s kind of irrelevant in the grand scheme of things when a DJ/producer can put more people in a stadium than the local football team…
I would personally like to see some fresh faces in the top 50, and maybe even a couple of the early pioneers who are still rocking it… there’s so much music out there, and as I keep discovering, the rule of “it’s not what you know, it’s who you know” continues to apply itself to real life situations. An example… two weeks ago, I was working out the 360 office down in the smoke, I crashed at my mates house, and over a couple of beers and some darts, we discussed in agreement the brilliance of podcasts. In particular those of a musical nature.
Later on, he introduced me to two absolutely fantastic podcasts that I’d never have found without the power of word of mouth: “Allez-Allez” and “BeatsInSpace.com” – both of which are well worth adding to your weekly download schedule.
Back to DJ Mag – so what does the consumer get in return for its efforts? Well, I’ll leave it up to the kind crew at DJ Mag to finish off with the details:
“DJ Magazine’s Top 100 DJs Poll is taken so seriously by clubbers, promoters and DJs worldwide for one reason – because it is a 100% public vote.
You can vote for any DJ, from the guy in your local bar to the big international superstars, meaning there is no better measure of which DJs are most popular on dancefloors across the globe. All voters will receive a free track from Trackitdown worth (£1.49) and a free digital copy of DJ Mag! To take advantage of this great offer just place your vote and check your email for the confirmation which will contain more information.
Results announced at a glittering party in London on Wednesday 29th October.”
So, there you have it… happy voting folks!
